Elbow
Elbow pain is a common complaint that can be caused by overuse, inflammation, or injury. The elbow joint is involved in most arm movements, and pain here can therefore significantly affect daily activities. The most common conditions are tennis elbow (lateral epicondylitis) and golfer’s elbow (medial epicondylitis), both of which are caused by overuse of the tendons in the elbow.
Elbow pain often affects people who perform repetitive movements with their hand and forearm, either in connection with work, sports, or leisure activities.
Common causes
- Tennis elbow (pain on the outside of the elbow)
- Golfer’s elbow (pain on the inside of the elbow)
- Overuse from repetitive movements
- Tendinitis
- Bursitis
- Arthritis or wear and tear
- Nerve entrapment (ulnar nerve)
- Acute injuries such as sprains or fractures
Symptoms

- Swelling or warmth around the elbow joint
When should you contact a physiotherapist?

Treatment
A physiotherapist at Eyr can assess your elbow via video, make a tentative diagnosis, and provide you with a tailored exercise program. Treatment often includes eccentric exercises to strengthen the tendons, stretching, ergonomic advice, and gradual increase in load. The physiotherapist can also advise on the use of elbow support and pain management.
