Musculoskeletal Disorders – Pain, Causes, and Treatment

Musculoskeletal Disorders

Musculoskeletal disorders are the most common cause of pain, functional impairment, and sick leave in Norway. These conditions affect muscles, tendons, joints, ligaments, and nerves, and can occur acutely following an injury or develop gradually over time. Pain in the back, neck, shoulders, knees, and other joints is very widespread in the population.

Physiotherapy is one of the most important forms of treatment for musculoskeletal complaints, and research shows that active treatment involving exercise yields the best results for most conditions.
