Swedes get sick from this in the summer.

Thousands of Swedes used video consultations last summer. Topping the list of issues we need help with are muscle and joint pain. Doctors expect even higher activity levels this year due to increased travel abroad.

Swedes get sick from this in the summer.

“Many people experience muscle and joint problems while on vacation, hiking, or participating in sports activities. It is one of the most common reasons people contact us while on holiday,” says Halima Chaudary, a doctor at Eyr and a specialist in general medicine.

If an injury occurs, you can alleviate pain and swelling by following the RICE principles until you have spoken with a doctor. RICE is a rule of thumb standing for Rest, Ice, Compression, and Elevation.

Other common issues affecting those who are traveling, staying at a summer house, or out for a walk include insect bites, vomiting, and digestive problems.

“If you know you are allergic to wasps, for example, remember to take your allergy medication with you when you leave the house. With diarrhea and vomiting, you lose a lot of fluid, and the most important thing is to replenish your intake of water, along with some sugar and salt. You can mix 1 liter of water with half a teaspoon of salt and 3 tablespoons of sugar. If you feel feverish, you can take paracetamol.”

Also topping the list are a number of classic, unpleasant symptoms that are easy to treat but require you to speak with a doctor. Rashes that require an ointment. A prescription for the allergy pills you forgot at home. Or an eye infection that is crying out for some soothing eye drops.

Rashes

“Rashes are very common. There are many different types of rashes that look different—ranging from itchy, dry skin with redness and swelling to small and large blisters.” “From localized allergies to chronic skin conditions,” says Chaudary.

You need to pay extra attention to certain rashes, such as those that appear after a tick bite, or rashes in children who also have a fever and appear generally unwell. In such cases, you should contact your doctor immediately for advice and treatment.

“What all rashes have in common is that there are effective treatment options available. And through a video consultation, Eyr doctors can provide you with a quick assessment and sound advice so that you can receive the right treatment,” says Chaudary.

Allergies

Allergies affecting the upper respiratory tract are another common problem that many Danes experience every summer. Do you have itchy eyes and a stuffy, runny nose every spring or summer? And do you sneeze constantly?

Then you are most likely allergic to pollen. Furthermore, many people feel lethargic and uncomfortable. Some allergy sufferers even find it difficult to concentrate. “Whether you have a mild, moderate, or severe pollen allergy, help is always available,” says the Eyr doctor.

“Our goal is for the allergy to affect you as little as possible,” she says.

Simple tips you can follow when suffering from pollen allergies include washing your hair before going to bed, rinsing your nose frequently, airing out your home in the evening rather than during the day, and wearing sunglasses on bright days.
