Take the doctor along on your summer vacation

Sick children are a vacation nightmare. And if you get sick yourself, a holiday in a simple cabin can turn into the worst summer memory of all time. Having Eyr in your pocket can be a lifesaver. Maren, a mother of three, recently experienced this firsthand. She was staying at a cabin when she and her baby fell ill.

“We have a ten-month-old boy who is still breastfeeding, and he was very restless and cranky. He kept touching his mouth, and I noticed a white coating on his tongue and throughout his mouth. I was also experiencing pain in my breasts,” says Maren.

“After doing some research, my husband discovered that it could be a fungal infection, known as thrush. That meant we both needed treatment.”

Symptoms of thrush

The most common sign is the appearance of areas with a white coating or white patches on the tongue, gums, and the inside of the cheeks. It may look like milk residue, but the coating adheres to the surface and cannot be easily wiped away. Breastfed babies can transmit the fungal infection to the mother’s nipple. Typical symptoms include the nipple becoming flaky, red, and sore. Mothers often feel a sharp or burning pain in the breast that persists for a long time, both during and after breastfeeding.

“I tried calling my GP, but the office was closed. Instead, I was able to book an appointment with a doctor via the Eyr app,” she says.

Simple and quick treatment

The Eyr app can be downloaded from the Apple App Store, and you use your BankID to log in. You can either pay the 375 NOK fee for a doctor’s consultation yourself or use your insurance.

“I had a video consultation with a skilled and experienced doctor who had several children of their own. Thrush is a fungal infection of the mucous membranes in the mouth. The diagnosis is based on symptoms, not a fungal test.” “The doctor was able to see both our baby’s mouth and my sore breast, and it was undoubtedly a fungal infection that needed to be treated,” she says.

“Through the Eyr app, the doctor obtained our personal identification numbers and sent prescriptions to the nearest pharmacy. The entire consultation took only ten minutes. Our baby received a liquid medication for the fungal infection, and I was given an ointment to apply to my sore breast. I received messages from the doctor within the app explaining how to use the medications,” she says.

“After ten days of treatment, we were both much better, and we were able to continue our vacation without any issues,” Maren concludes.
